Frequently Asked Questions regarding WBC2020 in light of COVID-19

  • I have already registered for WBC2020 in Glasgow, will my registration be transferred to WBC2020 Virtual?

    Yes, you do not need to take any action as your registration will be automatically transferred and any over payment refunded. You will be contacted by the registration team regarding the refund.

    Registration will include full access to the World Biomaterials Community for a duration of two years from July 2020.  

  • I registered as PhD student but am now a Post Doc do, I need to pay extra?

    No, we will honour your original registration and you are not required to pay extra.

  • I am part of a group and someone else has booked my registration, how should I proceed?

    Your group leader does not need to take any action as your registration will be automatically transferred and any over payment refunded. They will be contacted by the registration team regarding the refund. 

  • Can I swap my registration to my colleague? Can this be done within a group?

    Yes, you can swap your registration to that of a colleague, contact wbc2020.reghot@mci-group.com to arrange.
    Yes, you can alter a registration within your group (this should be done via the group leader), contact  wbc2020.reghot@mci-group.com.

Refunds 

  • Can I use my refund to pay for a colleague’s registration?

    Yes, please contact  wbc2020.reghot@mci-group.com to arrange.

  • I was unable to attend in December so cancelled but can attend the virtual congress, can I retain my registration?

    If you haven’t already received your 75% reimbursement please email wbc2020.reghot@mci-group.com to inform them of your request.

  • Will my accommodation fees be refunded if I booked through the WBC official room block?

    WBC2020 will handle all requests for hotel refunds booked through the registration system and all hotel blockings will automatically be released and refunds issued in due course. 

  • I have already booked my flight, can I get a refund?

    Delegates are responsible for cancelling their flight ticket. We advise you to contact your airline or travel agency for further details as each airline has its own policies regarding refunds and vouchers for future travels. WBC2020 is not responsible for any cancellation fees or penalties related to these transactions. 

  • What will WBC2020 Virtual offer?

    WBC2020 Virtual will include access to presentations (live and pre-recorded) from world leaders and experts, including industry symposia and ePoster presentations, available on-demand for up to three months after the congress. 

    Access to the virtual industry exhibition is also included for three months after the congress. 

  • What happens with my previously accepted abstract?

    The abstract is converted to the same presentation format in the virtual congress.

    You will be contacted by the abstract team with instructions in September.  

  • Do I need to be registered to have my presentation be part of the programme?

    Yes, a registration is required for your abstract to be part of the programme. 
  • How can I present my poster presentation?

    You will be contacted by the abstract team with instructions in September.  
  • How will I be able to give my presentation (keynote or oral) and/or chair a session at WBC2020 Virtual?

    From the comfort of your home, you will be able to give your presentation and/or chair a session. Please make sure to arrange: 
    • A computer with stable internet connection 
    • A microphone with good quality 
    • A quiet room to focus 
    • PowerPoint slides (including a Title and Disclosure slides)

        You will be contacted by the abstract team with instructions in September. 

  • Can I update my abstract?

    Yes, please email wbc2020abstracts@mci-group.com with your abstract number, name, title and changes you would like to make.
    If there are substantial changes your abstract will have to go through the review process again.

  • Will I be able to request a presentation certificate? 

    Yes, this can be requested after the congress, when your presentation has been published on WBC2020 Virtual. 

  • Can I submit a new poster abstract?

    Yes, abstract submission will open on Tuesday 28 July 2020
    Abstract deadline: Tuesday 1 September 2020

  • Can I submit an abstract for consideration as an oral communication?

    Yes, abstracts will be considered for additional oral communications if not they may be accepted for poster presentations.

  • I was due to attend a meeting during WBC, is this taking place virtually? When will I receive details?

    Yes, the meeting will be taking place during WBC Virtual, scheduling will take place in September.

    This applies to IUSBSE Society AGM, Journal Editorial Board meetings and other scheduled meetings.

  • Will my Workshop still be taking place?

    Yes, we will be scheduling all workshops to take place during WBC 2020 Virtual, we will be in touch in July with details and to discuss this further.

  • Are there any technical requirements needed to attend WBC2020 Virtual?

    The WBC2020 Virtual platform is designed to be easily accessible for all delegates. To access the meeting, you will simply need a device with audio (desktop, laptop, tablet, phone) and a stable internet connection.

    In order to have the best experience, we recommend using the latest version of Google Chrome, but other browsers such as Firefox, Safari and Internet Explorer 11+ can also be used.

  • How can I log into WBC Community and browse the content?

    You will be contacted by the WBC2020 team with instructions in July.

  • How long are the Community and Virtual websites open for?

    The Community website will be available from July 2020 with free access to all subscribers.

    The Virtual website will remain open for registered delegates until March 2021.
